Reaching out to the broader community is SUCH a great strategy, both from an enrollment standpoint, and as a way to build community buy-in for the institution. Nice job!

It's so ambitious to come out with 10 new geology courses, wow! Do any of these focus on mitigation and adaptation to local land loss, which you have identified as a need?

I liked how you incorporated and targeted specific communities (Native American) in trying to increase enrollment to the program.

It's great that your coursework in Geo can directly relate to local/regional issues like coastal issues/land loss. And that this will help with jobs in your region.

I'm surprised to hear of the development of 10 new Geo courses! Will you be offering multiple per semester? Do you have minimum enrollment numbers for courses to run and not be cancelled?

So interesting to look at your data - and to be able to compare bio and geo). And that you are looking at and using this as you are growing your programs! I am curious about the 10 new geo courses.

I think the focus on your strategies as articulated is good.
I wondered about the geology disasters course and the success rates in that (no need to respond to that but was curious about it.

I loved that you recognized that your institution does not really reflect the demographics of your community. So many people just look at their institution for opportunities, but not the community as a whole.

For a suggestion, given the low pass rates in Math, you might want to consider embedding quantitative skills into your science courses and seeing if you can reduce the pre-requisites for intro level courses.

I am impressed by your diverse course offerings! Does this variety of options tend to be a good way to attract majors?

Is there any relationship between the success rates in the math courses vs. the success rates in the intro courses - in other words, do students who struggle in the math pre-req courses also struggle in the intro courses? It would be interesting to evaluate, as it might suggest that it's not necessarily the content or content delivery but rather the availability of resources outside of the classroom.

I love the idea of outreach to local minority-owned businesses to create internship opportunities--seems like a real win/win.

I had two questions--I'm wondering if students who fail those introductory courses then have to retake them because they're required for a program. That might mean that the actual sort of personal success rate is lower than the numbers indicate (where some of those people who are succeeding are people who have actually failed the course at some point).

Another question that drew me in was the difference between the geology enrollment vs. geology with lab enrollment. I'm interested to hear the difference in those groups.

I love the strategies proposed to address the clear needs that were mentioned for connecting more to underrepresented populations in the bioscience and geoscience courses as well as improving the quality of math courses that are important in success in the science courses.

I am wondering what geology classes are being introduced this year---10 different topics ! Also, I wonder if there could be some examples from the biosciences and geosciences in math courses to help students see how it mathematic concepts are applicable. And, maybe run a workshop with math specific to those sciences for majors?

It's great that you are growing your Geology courses at you college. You mentioned that there are currently 3 Geology courses; with 10 others coming up. May I ask what those other 10 courses planned are? Will you be able to run the courses with your number of students?
