Jon Jensen - What does "education for sustainability" mean? What do we mean by a "big idea"?8:45-10:00 AM Divide into cross-disciplinary groups (set up by organizers) to discuss and compile a list of the "big ideas" in sustainability (from the reading before the workshop and brainstorming). 10:00-10:30 AM Break
10:30 AM-12:00 PM Report out from groups on sustainability big ideas.
Form disciplinary groups. Have each group construct a Venn diagram that links the "big ideas" in their disciplines with the "big ideas" in sustainability. Post these in a "gallery walk" format.12:00-1:00 PM Lunch (Cafeteria)
1:00-1:45 PM Short presentations of example assignments for sustainability;

Pick up copies of assignments after dinner. Participants should review the other activities for their disciplinary group and mark up the copies of the activities in preparation for the Thursday AM session.5:00-6:15 PM Dinner - Baker Commons

Thursday, June 10

8:15-8:30 AM Opening remarks; Summarize comments from previous day; tasks for the morning
8:30-9:00 AM In disciplinary groups, exchange reviews and and modify assignments, based on comments.
9:00-10:00 AM In disciplinary groups, formulate a disciplinary action plan (might include a preliminary list of resources) following a brief introduction to a Geoscience example.
10:00-10:30 AM Break
10:30-11:30 AM Closing session: Summarize, report and review a few disciplinary action plans with whole group, assignment (for homeward trip) for institutional action plan
11:30 AM-12:30 PM Lunch (Baker Commons) and closing pep talk; End of Workshop evaluation
1:00-2:30 PM optional tour of sustainability sites at Luther College
