Creating a sense of belonging using hands-on strategies in our geoscience courses

Registration Deadline: January 9, 2020

EVENT DATE: Friday, January 17, 2020 from 9:30AM to 2:00 PM (lunch is included); coffee and registration 9:00-9:30 AM
LOCATION: Pasadena City College, E104

At this workshop we will discuss effective strategies for creating a sense of belonging in the classroom. Many students come into our classrooms with numerous obstacles to doing well in our courses. Very quickly they feel they do not belong in the class and begin to tune out. At this workshop, participants will discuss effective methods to connect with these students and build their confidence. Participants will also explore ways to improve already implemented strategies. The conveners will describe methods that they have learned, and all participants will be invited to share methods that have worked and/or approaches that are in need of refinement.
