Session 1: September 25:

  • 12:00-12:30pm: Overview of active learning strategies and examples of strategies implemented in our classes. 
  • 12:30-12:45pm: Attendees will be assigned to breakout rooms with "alfredo sauce" activities provided by the presenters that workshop attendees will fix using the active learning strategies presented. 
  • 12:45-1pm: Group discussion of the improved activities and ideas for improving activities in your course.

Session 2: October 2:

  • 12:00-12:15pm: Introduction and brief review of active learning strategies
  • 12:15-12:45pm: Attendees will bring their own lab/activity and learning strategy to improve their less-than-optimal activity/lab in a breakout group. 
  • 12:45-1:15pm: In jigsaw groups (15 min each), they will take their activity/lab and discuss how it could be applied to other disciplines. 
  • 1:15-1:45pm: Group presentations of the improved activities and ideas for how they can be used in other disciplines. 
  • 1:45-2:00pm: Overview of "The Pantry": our online repository of labs/activities for classes. http://go.hawaii.edu/Er3
