Site Guide: Red Tide, Harmful Algal Blooms, and Dead Zones
Several resources about red tides and harmful algal blooms are available from the SERC websites. Below is a list of project websites that provide visualizations, teaching activities, and tools that may be of use in the classroom or in lab.

Red Tide - Microbial Life Educational Resources - This page provides users with basic information about red tide, including what it is, what causes it, why it's harmful, and how to remediate it. The page also includes links to collections of further information which are categorized by audience: general, advanced, and educators.
The Gulf of Mexico Dead Zone - Microbial Life Educational Resources - This page provides users with basic information about dead zones, focusing on the Gulf of Mexico dead zone, and includes information such as what it is, what causes it, why it's harmful, and how to remediate it. The page also includes links to collections of further information which are categorized by audience: general, advanced, and educators.
Visualizations
Ocean Chemistry and Productivity Visualizations - This page hosts a handful of illustrations, diagrams and models about carbon cycling, phytoplankton, chlorophyll concentration, algal blooms, nutrient cycling and more.
Nitrates and Phosphates and Algae, Oh My! - Earth Labs - This page is the beginning in a series of labs that explore algae and how they can affect fisheries. Included is a lab that specifically involves dead zones and harmful algal blooms. Each lab contains visualizations, background information, resources and a series of questions students can use to quiz themselves on the material.

Micro*scope Tutorial - This page, part of Microbial Life Educational Resources, provides information about how to use the Micro*scope database, which contains a large and diverse set of images and information about microorganisms.
Working with Data
Exploring Mote Marine Laboratory Oceanography Data in the Classroom - This activity uses data from the Mote Marine Laboratory to teach students about red tide and other harmful algal blooms. It can be used as a laboratory activity.
