Workshop Stipends
If your institution has limited resources to support your participation in the On the Cutting Edge Early Career Geoscience Faculty workshop, you may be eligible for assistance of up to $1600 from our workshop stipend fund. Because our funds are limited, we encourage you to first pursue possible sources of funding on your campus, such as your department chair, dean, center for teaching and learning, or other faculty development programs.
As stipends are NSF-funded, to be supported by this funding, a participant must be either a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident. All participants are expected to participate in the entire workshop, and stipend recipients must participate fully in the workshop.
Note that stipends are reimbursed after the workshop and will not affect the fee that is paid upfront.
Please note that workshop stipends may be considered taxable income. Since each situation is unique, we encourage you to consult with your tax advisor.
To apply for a stipend, fill out the stipend application form by April 15, 2024 . We'll notify you of your stipend award amount, if any, before the workshop registration deadline.
Criteria
We try to award workshop stipends to those participants with demonstrated financial need. When funds are insufficient to meet the needs of all applicants, funds are awarded to all applicants at a level based on need.
Timing and Disbursement Details
Stipend award decisions are made soon after the stipend application deadline so that participants will know the results of their stipend application prior to the workshop payment deadline.
Awards will be issued after the workshop and after the awardees' participation in the entire workshop is verified by a workshop convener. Awardees must keep a copy of their registration receipt and travel expenses (airfare or mileage). Awardees will be contacted within three weeks of the stipend award application deadline with complete instructions.
