Monday July 16: Becoming a successful scholar

  • 11:15-11:30: Summary of the Day, Introduction to Lunchtime Discussion Groups, and Road Check
Lunchtime discussion groups:
  • Professional Networks (what do you have? what might you need in the future?) and other topics based on participant interest

  • Afternoon mini-workshops

4:30 pm - 5:45 pm

6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

  • Evening academic cafe: Research statement reviews (note location: Ritchie 366)

Tuesday July 17: Building your portfolio

8:30 am - 11:30 am

  • 8:30-8:35: Overview of Theme: Building Your Teaching and Research Portfolios
  • 8:35-9:05: Pathways to becoming an effective teacher and elements of teaching: course design, best practices in classroom teaching (drawing on the Monday PM sessions)
  • 9:05-9:35 and 9:35-10:05: Effective teaching: small group concurrent sessions, choose two and we'll rotate at 9:35
    • minority-serving institutions (expectations, application and interview process)
    • community colleges (expectations, application and interview process)
    • research universities (expectations, application and interview process)
    • liberal arts colleges (expectations, application and interview process)
    • demonstrating inclusivity in your portfolio
