General schedule

Below, you'll find the bare bones of the Forum schedule in chronological order so that you can see at a glance what is planned for which days. We will replace this general schedule with a detailed program page as the Forum approaches. You must register for field trips and workshops when you register for the Forum. Full descriptions are provided on the Field trips and workshops page.

Saturday, July 30 - pre-Forum field trips and workshops

Field trip: Highlights of the Franciscan (David Bero, Sonoma State, Christie Rowe & Samantha Carruthers, McGill University) . Limit 22; start time 8:00 am.

Field trip: Eastern Northern Coast Ranges (Wine Country Geology) (Eldridge Moores, UC Davis ). Limit 22; start time 8:00 am.

Workshop: Introduction to Electron Backscatter Diffraction (EBSD): sample preparation and analysis (Matty Mookerjee). Limit 6; start time 10:00 am.

Workshop: New Methods for Creating Admissible Cross Sections (Kurt Burmeister and Scott Giorgis). Limit 24; start time 1:00 pm.

Sunday, July 31 - pre-Forum field trips and workshops

Field trip: Active faulting in the Napa Valley (Alex Morelan and Mike Oskin, UC Davis). Limit 22; start time 8:00 am.

Field trip: Inherited structural complexity and active deformation in the eastern Coast Ranges (Eastern Franciscan and CRF) (Ben Melosh and Bob McLaughlin, USGS). Limit 22; start time 8:00 am.

Workshop: Statistical Treatment of Structural Geology Data (Josh Davis, Sarah Titus, and Basil Tikoff). Limit 24; start time 8:00 am.

Monday, August 1 through Wednesday August 3 - main Forum sessions

The daily schedule for the main part of the Forum will follow the general pattern listed below.

  • 7-8 breakfast
  • 8-10 topical session opening remarks (5 mins), keynote speaker (40 mins), 2-3 invited speakers (20 mins each), speed poster introductions (2 minutes per poster author)
  • 10-12 coffee break and posters
  • 12-1 lunch
  • 1-2 discussion
  • 2-2:45 session opening remarks (5 mins), keynote speaker (40 mins)
  • 2:45-3:00 coffee break
  • 3.00-4:15 2-3 invited speakers (20 mins each), speed poster introductions (2 minutes per poster author)
  • 4:15 posters
  • 6-7 dinner
  • 7:30-? optional sessions (including a Monday evening session for grad students and post-docs on academic careers)

Thursday, August 4 - post-Forum field trips and workshops

Field trip: Introduction to the Strabo Data System (Basil Tikoff & Randy Williams, University of Wisconsin). Limit 10; start time 8:00 am.

Field trip: Northern San Andreas Fault Deformation, Point Arena (Matty Mookerjee, Sonoma State). Limit 22; start time 8:00 am.

Workshop: Teaching Structural Geology: use of tablet-based apps for mapping in our undergraduate structure courses. Leader: Larry Malinconico. Limited to 20 participants. Start time 9 am. Optional afternoon session 1-3 pm.

Workshop: Analysis, statistics, and presentation of geological spherical directional data using Orient (Fred Vollmer). Limit 14; start time 8:00 am.

Friday, August 5 - post-Forum field trips and workshops

Field trip: Brewschist IV: Franciscan Complex and Brewpubs of Sonoma County (John Wakabayashi). Limit 22; start time 8:00 am.

Field trip: NEW TRIP! Active Tectonics of the North Coast (Carol Prentice and Steve DeLong, USGS). Limit 22; start time 8:00 am.
