1. The image shows a triptych of the Aral Sea over time. The first is May 1973, the second August 1987, and the third July 2000. These pictures illustrate the effects of channeling the feeding river branch to this sea away from the sea to irrigate crops. Over time you can see the Sea has significantly been drying up.
2. The measurements for each of the three areas highlighted in red as you can see from the 2nd screen capture in Area 2 = 5723.875km from May 1973, Area 3 = 4209.625km in August 1987, Area 4 = 2867.688km in July 2000. These 3 results demonstrate actual loss of water in area. Disregard Area 1 measurement.
3. I imagine Incorporating ImageJ techniques and/or satellite data into my teaching to support subject area teachers in their lessons with students in the use of data tools for hands on exploration of how man effects nature and how we can gather data and show man's effect over time, or the natural course of events in nature over time. I think this could be an exciting way for students to learn the conversion of measurement, use of timelines, hands on time with digital tools to study data and come up with answers to open response questions. Much better way for students to spend their time in active learning and demonstrate their abilities.
