Karen's Moon Phase Light Analysis
This outlines the plan for analyzing the illumination of the moon at different phases. Students use ImageJ to create an animation of the the moon's phases, find the percent of the surface illuminated and graph is in Excel. I would love to hear any feedback! :)
Karen--I love your lesson and will use it when we discuss moon phases. Earth in Space unit but I cannot view your moon stack --It appears as random images in a slide show??

Hello Karen,
Your lesson looks great! I guess I have had trouble posting my lesson about moon phases but I'll keep trying. My lesson involves an exploration of ImageJ with practice measuring distance and area. The website I used for moon phase images was http://www.Air_and_Space.com/Moon%20200408.htm. My lesson also uses Excel and a line graph.
See you Oct. 25th.

Karen - I plan on doing this in the spring when I start astronomy with my 5th graders. I'd love to know how it works out for you. Obviously much of the math will not be included with my younger students.

I like your lesson. That should help the kids answer the moon question on the grade 8 science MCAS!
