2026 Forum Overview

The 2026 SGT Form has three days of plenary sessions bookended by a mix of field trips and workshops.

Format

Technical sessions: The three-days of plenary technical sessions will be Monday through Wednesday August 3-5. We will update the full program as the Forum approaches. The main Forum program will be built around abstracts solicited from participants.

We strongly encourage participants to stay for the full three days of plenary sessions.

Field trips and workshops: Optional workshops and field trips will take place before (1-2 August) and after (6-7 August) the meeting. Please pre-register for these events when you register for the Forum.

Arrival and departure: Field trips may depart early and return late. Please plan your travel so that you arrive the evening before the first event that you wish to attend and leave after the last event has concluded.

Registration and abstract deadlines

Abstracts: Submit your abstract by June 15. You do not need to submit an abstract to attend the Forum.

Registration: Registration for field trips, workshops, and campus housing will open on May 1.

Travel Information, Logistics and costs

Location and facilities: The Forum will be held on campus at Carleton College, in Northfield, MN.

Travel: The Minneapolis-St. Paul (MSP) airport is the closest airport. The town of Northfield is approximately 45 minutes south of the airport. We recommend that you arrange ground transportation before you arrive at MSP. Your options include:

  • Renting a car. Carpooling is encouraged. We will contact participants in July to facilitate ride-sharing from MSP.
  • Booking a taxi. The College recommends: First Choice Shuttle – 507-339-1651 (only accepts cash or check)
  • Ride-sharing apps are not recommended. While you may be able to get a ride to Northfield from MSP, it is very difficult to get a return trip to the airport.

Lodging: Low-cost housing is available on campus in single or shared rooms in the College's newest living quarters at Lilac Hill. You can also book a room at the Fairfield Inn, which is located within walking distance of Carleton's campus. We have reserved a block of rooms under the name SGT Forum.

Meals: Food will be available from Carleton (either in the dining hall or catered). Funding from the National Science Foundation will be used to cover most food costs during the meeting.

Registration for the Forum, field trips, and workshops/short courses: There may be some additional costs for field trips; details to come.

Travel support. We may be able to offer a limited number of travel stipends to partially reimburse travel and lodging costs for some participants, especially graduate students and early career researchers.
