Travel and Logistics Information

InTeGrate Teacher Prep Meeting, Ellensburg, WA - March 1st & 2nd, 2012

Getting to Ellensburg

Most of you will be flying into Seattle. Ellensburg is about 110 miles east of Seattle on the other side of the Cascades. There is a shuttle from SeaTac directly to your hotel called Belair Shuttle (for schedule see this link http://www.airporter.com/schedules/schedules-rates-cwa); you can book the shuttle online if you'd like and you will be reimbursed for the cost. You may also rent a car if you wish, but we may not be able to reimburse the entire cost of the car rental. Please plan to arrive in Ellensburg by the evening of February 29 so that we can get an early start on March 1.

We'll plan to finish by early afternoon on Friday, March 2, so that you could get an evening flight out if that is convenient. (If you prefer to leave Saturday morning, we can reimburse a third night of lodging.)

For those of you who are driving, Google maps will get you here quite easily, but let me know if you have questions.

Staying in Ellensburg

The Quality Inn offers a standard rate for Central Washington University events of $70/night. Please call them directly to make your reservation, and just say that it is for a CWU event in the geology department. Here's a link to the website (http://www.qualityinn.com/hotel-ellensburg-washington-WA208).

The Belair shuttle from the airport stops at the Quality Inn. In addition, there is a free shuttle from the hotel up to campus that runs about every 20 minutes in the morning and the afternoon.

Meals

For the most part, you will pay for your meals and get reimbursed. Here's a bit more information:

Breakfast: The Quality Inn does not currently have a complimentary breakfast, but I've been told that they might by March. If not, it is attached to a restaurant, and there is a Starbucks next door. You will be on your own for getting breakfast.

Lunch: We will either have catered lunches or walk downtown for lunch.

Dinners: I will make a group reservation for us at a local restaurant on Thursday night, and will offer suggestions and/or company for Wednesday and Friday nights.

Meeting location

We'll meet in the Science Education conference room in the Science Building (here is a link to a campus map; the Science Building is just southwest of the center of the map). As I mentioned, there is a free shuttle from the hotel to campus. It's about a 2.5-mile walk if you prefer that - the first part isn't so attractive, but it gets better. If you want to drive, there is a free parking lot on the corner of Ruby and University, in front of a defunct Albertson's grocery store, but you have to get there early. Alternatively, you can buy a daily parking permit in the dispenser at the back of lot O-5 at the corner of 14th and D Street; the cost is $3/day. I'll send more detailed directions when we get closer to the date.

What to do before you get here

You are all very busy people, and I am not going to ask you to do a lot before the meeting - mostly a little thinking, and preparing to talk about things you already do or wish you could do. I will send out another email with more information in a few weeks. In the meantime, I'll point you to the InTeGrate website if you haven't been there already.
