Workshop Details
Opening Activities
The workshop will begin on Tuesday evening, June 2, 2009 at 5:00pm in Chesapeake A of the Sadler Center. If you are traveling a long distance and cannot make it to Williamsburg on June 2 by 5:00pm we will provide housing for you the night of June 1. The workshop will end at 5:30 on Thursday, June 4 after the closing session. We anticipate that most participants will depart following the last workshop session. However, if you will need to stay in Williamsburg the night of June 4 in order to attend the entire workshop, we will cover the cost of your (shared) hotel room the night of the 4th.
Travel
Transportation to Williamsburg:
You are responsible for your travel to and from the workshop.
Air:
You are responsible for your transportation to and from the airport. Once we have travel information for all participants, we will provide information about arrival times so participants arriving at the same airport can coordinate transportation to Williamsburg if they wish. Three airports serve the Williamsburg area: Richmond, Newport News, and Norfolk.
It is easier to travel to Williamsburg from Richmond or Newport News than from Norfolk, so unless the schedule or fares are significantly better in Norfolk, we encourage you to arrive in Richmond or Newport News. The Richmond airport is approximately 50 minutes by car from Williamsburg, the Newport News Patrick Henry Airport is about 20 minutes by car, and the Norfolk airport is one hour (or more depending on tunnel traffic).
Richmond International Airport Ground Transportation:
Groome Transportation (1-800-552-7911) leaves the airport every hour on the hour. The cost for one person is $44 one-way and $78 round-trip; if two or more passengers ride together the one-way cost is $27.50 per person. The Groome service desk is to the right once you exit the escalator by Carousel 1 in Baggage Claim. Arrangements for the return trip to the airport can be made when you arrive in Richmond. Groome may take longer than 50 minutes to reach Williamsburg if they need to drop passengers off along the way.
Tidewater Coach (757-218-9539) costs $60 for single passengers and $40 each for multiple riders. Tidewater Coach requires at least a days notice but more notice is better. They will track your flight and leave you a voicemail with final pickup information. Once you retrieve your bags you can go out the exit at Carousel #5, cross the driveway to the Passenger Pickup Island and look for a vehicle marked Tidewater Coach.
Taxicabs, if shared, may also be a reasonably priced alternative as they are approximately $120 one-way.
Newport News Patrick Henry Airport Ground Transportation:
Tidewater Coach (757-218-9539) costs $30 for single passengers and $20 each for multiple riders. You can call for reservations or click on the link above to make your reservation online.
