Abstract
Beginning with a 2006 NSF-supported workshop, the geomorphology community designed, built and revised a textbook entitled Key Concepts in Geomorphology (Montgomery and Bierman, 2012, 2019). The book differed from existing texts in both the design process and the result – a shorter text focused on the key concepts of the discipline. An associated website (https://serc.carleton.edu/vignettes/index.html) catalogs 229 vignettes, community contributed case studies that can be used in conjunction with the text or as stand-alone resources.
In this poster we seek community input on how the structural geology and tectonics community might proceed to develop our own set of resources to promote the teaching of structural geology. The poster will include prompts to foster discussion of the need for such resources, what form these resources could take (textbook, online modules, ...), how we might proceed with their development, and a first pass at identifying key concepts to include in a first undergraduate structural geology course. Please come to share your thoughts!
