Instrument Type
Raman Spectroscopy
Application:
Micro-imaging
Typical Use:
WiTEC alpha300R confocal Raman microscope system. Raman imaging or point spectroscopy using 532 or 785 nm lasers. Determination of mineral composition.
Conditions for Use:
- Submitted samples will be analyzed on a contract basis (i.e. lab personnel will do the work).
- Visitors are invited to work in the lab to work with lab personnel.
User Fees:
$51/hr for Raman analysis
Instrument Priorities:
In order of priority, instrument is available for funded research, lab visitors, and student projects.
Remote Use:
No
Sample Preparation:
Raman imaging works best on polished thin or thick sections. Point spectroscopy can be done on unprepared samples.
Standard Collections/Lab Blanks:
Software:
Use of WiTEC project software for spectral analysis and CrystalSleuth for mineral identification.
Educational Use:
Graduate student research projects are invited
