Raman Spectroscopy

Application:

Micro-imaging

Typical Use:

WiTEC alpha300R confocal Raman microscope system. Raman imaging or point spectroscopy using 532 or 785 nm lasers. Determination of mineral composition.

Conditions for Use:

  • Submitted samples will be analyzed on a contract basis (i.e. lab personnel will do the work).
  • Visitors are invited to work in the lab to work with lab personnel.

User Fees:

$51/hr for Raman analysis

Instrument Priorities:

In order of priority, instrument is available for funded research, lab visitors, and student projects.

Remote Use:

No

Sample Preparation:

Raman imaging works best on polished thin or thick sections. Point spectroscopy can be done on unprepared samples.

Software:

Use of WiTEC project software for spectral analysis and CrystalSleuth for mineral identification.

Educational Use:

Graduate student research projects are invited
