Leader Timeline: Preparing for the Workshop

We ask that you do several things in advance of the workshop, so that we can all be well-prepared for it. Here's a list of those preparatory activities and their deadlines.

By June 11:

  • Fill in the relevant portions of the registration form: personal information, travel and lodging, teaching and research interests, and the research release (toward the end of the form). For information on travel options, see the logistics page. Remember that we can purchase your ticket for you or reimburse your travel costs, and that we will cover the cost of your lodging.

By July 5:

  • Edit the leader workspace page: Add your thoughts on moving your research to new settings. We're especially interested in hearing from you about strategies for getting a research program off the ground at an institution like yours. You may also add to the list of challenges faculty face in moving to your type of institution.
By July 12:
  • Plan your workshop sessions. Our web page on designing your workshop, particularly the section on developing the workshop program, has some cogent advice based on our years of experience running Cutting Edge workshops.
  • Upload your presentations and/or handouts so that we can include them in the workshop notebooks that we give to every participant. If you don't upload your handouts by this deadline, you'll need to bring your own copies. However, we still want them uploaded before the workshop begins so that we can link them to the workshop website.

Prior to leaving home:

  • Upload any of your presentations or handouts that you haven't already uploaded, or that you have updated since uploading.
  • Download the workshop health form, complete it, and bring it with you to the workshop in a sealed envelope.
  • Print out (and bring with you) the map of the Stanford campus.

July 28:

  • Arrive at Stanford. Check in to your dorm room.

July 29:

  • Leader meeting, all day. We'll review the program, plan transitions, and answer your questions about the schedule.
  • Workshop begins in the evening.
