2024 Structural Geology and Tectonics Forum

Western Washington University will host the 7th Structural Geology and Tectonics Forum June 24-27, 2024. The format consists of half-day plenary sessions, an afternoon field trip for all conference participants, and optional field trips and workshops before and after the forum. Plenary sessions will be devoted to a critical topic addressed with invited talks, lightning talks, and poster presentations. The main Forum program will be built around abstracts solicited from participants.

2022 Structural Geology and Tectonics Forum

Bowdoin College will host the 6th Structural Geology and Tectonics Forum in June, 2022. The format consists of half-day plenary sessions, an afternoon field trip for all conference participants, and optional field trips and workshops both before and after the technical sessions. Plenary sessions will be devoted to a critical topic addressed with invited talks, lightning talks, and poster presentations. The main Forum program will be built around abstracts solicited from participants.

2018 Structural Geology and Tectonics Forum

In January 2018, Arizona State University will host the 5th Biennial Structural Geology and Tectonics Forum. The Forum is an interactive venue for discussing important frontiers, new ideas, and current research in structural geology and tectonics. The Forum also provides opportunities to discuss effective teaching of structural geology and tectonics, including integrating research with teaching. The four-day Forum includes workshops and field trips. Although the Forum is aimed at professional geologists, we encourage advanced graduate students to attend.

2016 Structural Geology and Tectonics Forum

In August 2016, Sonoma State University hosted the 4th Biennial Structural Geology and Tectonics Forum. This Forum is an interactive venue for discussing important frontiers, new ideas, and current research in structural geology and tectonics. The Forum also provides opportunities to discuss effective teaching of structural geology and tectonics, including integrating research with teaching. The three-day Forum will be bracketed by two optional days of workshops and field trips. Although the Forum is aimed at professional geologists, we encourage advanced graduate students to attend.

2014 Structural Geology and Tectonics Forum

In June 2014, Colorado School of Mines will host the 3rd Biennial Structural Geology and Tectonics Forum. This Forum will provide an informal and interactive venue for discussing important frontiers, new ideas, and current research in structural geology and tectonics. The Forum will also provide opportunities to discuss effective teaching of structural geology and tectonics, including integrating research with teaching. The Forum is aimed at professional geologists but will welcome advanced graduate students as well.

2012 Teaching Structural Geology, Geophysics, and Tectonics

What are the grand challenges, leading edge ideas, and frontiers in structural geology, geophysics, and tectonics? How can we teach these ideas effectively in undergraduate courses? What innovative strategies can we use to integrate structural geology, geophysics, and tectonics in the courses that we teach for majors? What role can GIS and GPS analysis play in teaching these disciplines? This workshop was an exciting collaborative effort that addressed these and related issues in order to help faculty teach undergraduate structural geology, geophysics and tectonics more effectively. 2004 Teaching Structural Geology workshop

During the summer of 2004, 70 structural geologists from around the country met for a week-long workshop to explore best practices in teaching structural geology. Download handouts and supporting materials from workshop presentations and discussions or view the workshop program.
