Online Workshop: Teaching your upper-level course online: A Community Collaboration to build robust online Geoscience courses

This workshop will draw on best practices for course design to help you develop your online upper-level course using a combination of resources from past NAGT workshops and recently (by necessity!) developed and/or adapted materials. Workshop participants will discuss designs for online/remote learning and will form working groups of people teaching similar courses.

Many of us made a rapid transition to teaching online in the spring of 2020 and did the best we could on short notice. Now, in thinking about what our teaching might look like during upcoming semesters, we need to be prepared to continue teaching online (maybe entirely, maybe partially), this time with more forethought and knowledge about how students deal with learning online. Let's work together to create strong online courses for our majors that draw from existing resource collections and our recent experiences. Groups of faculty teaching similar courses will develop learning goals for their courses, find activities in the Teach the Earth collection that could be used to achieve the learning goals, and develop syllabi that can be adapted by our colleagues. Workshop participants will be given the opportunity to share online teaching activities that could contribute to a majors-level course. The more participants and contributions we have, the easier our collective jobs will be.
