Participant checklist

In order to help you get the most out of Bringing Coding to the Undergraduate Geoscience Classroom virtual workshop, we ask that you do a few things in advance. Here is a list of the preparatory activities and their deadlines.

Registration tasks by January 5, 2026

We want to make sure you are able to get Python installed on your computer before you register for the workshop. If you don't have Python installed, follow the steps below. If you do have Python installed, take a look at the resources to make sure you are all set.

  1. Installing Python and Github resources
  2. Complete the registration

Before the workshop by January 12, 2026

Pre-workshop Tasks

To make the most of the virtual workshop, we would like participants to complete a few preliminary tasks that will likely take approximately 2 hours:

  1. Check if you have a SERC account and make one if you do not have one. This account will be used for accessing the private workspace during the workshop. (5 minutes)
  2. Watch webinar recording (1 hour)
  3. Explore Jupyter Notebook accompanying webinar (30 minutes)
  4. (Optional, but encouraged) Explore "Resources" links on the webinar page (30 minutes)
  5. Identify course activities that may be enhanced with coding - e.g. one that uses spreadsheets, plotting, pulling data from an online database, etc. (varies)
