8:00 Introductions and icebreakers.  How to adapt this icebreaker for different classes and levels.

8:30 Examples and the backwards design process.

Workshop leaders go through the backwards design process to select and modify existing activities.

Participants then define learning objectives, content and activities they are interested in adapting, and share out with the group.

9:30 Break

9:45 Navigating the databases.

Workshop leaders simplify the search process by walking participants through the scope of IRIS, SERC and other online repositories of Earth Science lesson plans.

In small groups, participants create a group document in which they identify activities that correspond to content they want to develop.

10:50 Road Check.

11:00 Adjourn for the day.  Homework: target one activity to modify.

Friday

8:00 Adapting activities: Individual work time.

Reflect on yesterday's progress and move into small workgroups (created based on shared class characteristics).

Work in small group setting to adapt and modify your targeted activity. Complete worksheet that highlights objectives, assessment, and how this activity has been tailored to your class audience, setting, etc.

9:15 Break

9:45 Adapting activities: Group work time.

Continue to work in groups.  Organize individual activities so that a group presentation highlighting modifications made in each activity can be presented to other groups in a virtual gallery walk.

10:15 Virtual gallery walk

Each small workgroup will have the opportunity to present their work to other groups. Team members take turns staying in their groups break-out room and explaining their activity to others, then visiting other break-out rooms to view and discuss their activities.
