Teaching Demonstration and Share-a-Thon Proposals

Late Submission deadline: May 15, 2019

For your late Share-a-Thon proposal to be considered, complete the following form and click on SUBMIT no later than May 15, 2019. Only one first author submission per person for oral, poster and teaching demo sessions. A second first author submission is allowed for a Share-a-Thon session, so long as it is on a different topic.

The committee will review the submissions and notify authors in early April. Accepted demonstrators will be asked to fill out a full activity sheet, including activity assessment, by May 1, 2019. The Cutting Edge Exemplary Teaching Activity Collection are examples of the high standard these activities should meet.

Teaching Demos vs Share-a-Thon - What's the difference?

Teaching demonstrations are 20 minutes in length and are in a classroom-style presentation, differing from the less formal, 1-2-minute presentation followed by small-group discussion in the round-robin style of the Share-a-thon sessions.

Please note that there is a 2-day afternoon workshop offered concurrently with the Wednesday Share-a-Thon and Teaching Demonstrations sessions this year (read more about the "Data Labs: Using Ocean Observatory Initiative (OOI) Data to Engage Students in Oceanography workshop" (opens in a new window)).

Several overarching themes have been identified for Rendezvous events. Please assist us in making sure we feature your event description in searches on those themes by selecting all that apply below.

We encourage attendees to organize related presentations as a theme set. We have suggested three theme sets below, but encourage participants to communicate with colleagues to submit activities that fit a theme of their choice.
