Travel Stipends for the Earth Educators' Rendezvous
The application deadline for travel stipends has passed.
If your institution has limited resources to support your travel to the Earth Educators' Rendezvous, you may be eligible for assistance from our workshop travel stipend fund. Because our funds are limited, it is unlikely that we will be able to cover your full travel from this fund. We encourage you to first pursue possible sources of funding on your campus, such as your department chair, dean, center for teaching and learning, or other faculty development programs. Maximum stipends are $500 and are for airfare and/or dorm (or hotel) only.
To receive support through this fund, a participant must be either a U.S. citizen, a permanent resident of the U.S., or in the employ of a U.S. institution. Stipends are awarded to applicants based on financial need and the potential impact on their participation and only to those that have met the application deadline. Priority will be given to those that have not been the recipient of a previous InTeGrate travel award.
The workshop stipend application is due April 1 and recipients will be notified by April 15 (prior to the registration cancellation deadline).
Disbursement details
If you applied for and received approval for a travel stipend, here are the instructions for receiving your stipend. If you receive a workshop travel stipend, please follow the instructions given in the award letter.
Awards will be issued after the conference and after the awardees' participation in the Rendezvous is complete. Awardees will need to submit travel receipts and provide tax identification information to Carleton College before the award can be issued and no later than August 31, 2016. If you fail to return your completed documentation by this date, you forfeit your stipend. Please allow 4-6 weeks after returning receipts and a W-9 to receive your reimbursement.
If you have questions regarding the stipend awards, please contact Krista Herbstrith.
How to apply
The application deadline for travel stipends has passed.
Support for Specific Workshops
The following three workshops have additional funds available for travel support. These stipends are offered through funding designated for these specific workshops, and thus are offered only to those who register and participate in this workshop. If you receive funding through these workshop stipends, you will not be eligible for the general Rendezvous travel funds above.
Preparing for an Academic Career Workshop Support
For post-docs and graduate students applying for funds for the Preparing for an Academic Career workshop, we offer an "early decision" stipend deadline of February 10 and will notify recipients by February 24. These awards can also include registration costs. Depending on availability of funds, we will also award stipends to post-docs and graduate students for the Preparing for an Academic Career workshop who submit an application by April 1 and will notify recipients by April 15. These stipends are offered through funding designated for this specific workshop, and thus are offered only to those who register and participate in this workshop. If the workshop fills and your are not able to register for it, your stipend award for the Preparing for an Academic Career workshop is forfeited and you will be considered for one of the general workshop stipend awards. Register early.
Geoscience Education Research (GER) Community Planning Workshop Support
Participation in GER Community Planning Workshop will be application-based with priority going to active geoscience education researchers at different career stages and at different types of institutions. In addition, we encourage participation of learning scientists (e.g., education researchers, cognitive scientists) who collaborate, or are interested in collaborating, with geoscience education researchers. We also encourage participation of people who are a position to influence or accelerate the uptake of research into practice in geoscience education (e.g., professional society officers, center for teaching and learning staff, department chairs).
GeoNeeds: Broadening Participation in the Geosciences Workforce Support
Travel Stipends to pay for participation in the GeoNeeds workshop are available through the Geo-Needs Project. We will support ~20 participants (EER registration, travel to Madison WI, stipend for lodging and meals) for participants from MRIs and 2YCs that serve primarily students from underrepresented groups. Participants who are awarded this travel stipend are expected to: a) attend the full week of EER events, b) participate in an opening dinner to learn more about GeoNeeds and to meet the other participants in this cohort; c) attend the mini-workshop on Thursday and Friday; and d) complete an Action Plan for increasing instruction of Earth Science at your home institution.
