Venable Hall, UNC Chapel Hill

The workshop will officially begin with a program Wednesday evening, June 27 at 7:00pm. We will gather informally for a reception at 5:30pm and dinner at 6:00pm in Trillium A of the William and Ida Friday Center for Continuing Education at the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill, 100 Friday Center Drive, Chapel Hill, NC. If you cannot arrive on Wednesday in time for the 7:00pm session, please indicate this on your travel information form and we will arrange lodging for you on Tuesday night. The workshop will conclude after dinner on Friday, June 29. Optional additional workshop sessions will be held on Wednesday afternoon, June 27, and in the morning on Saturday, June 30.

Travel

Participants are responsible for their transportation to and from the workshop. Once we have travel information for all participants, we will provide a list of arrival times so participants arriving at approximately the same time can coordinate to Chapel Hill if they wish. The Chapel Hill/Orange County Visitors Bureau offers an extensive list of travel options for getting to Chapel Hill.

Arriving by Air

The major airport serving Chapel Hill is Raleigh-Durham International Airport, RDU;. It is approximately 30 minutes by car to the hotel/the Friday Center. Airport taxi service is available for around $38.00 one-way. To coordinate ground transportation to Chapel Hill, we will assemble and distribute a list of participants' email addresses and arrival/departure times prior to the workshop.

Arriving by Rail

There are three Amtrak stations within 25 miles from the hotel/the Friday Center. Taxi service and shuttles are also available.

Accommodations

You will be staying at the Courtyard by Marriott Chapel Hill, 100 Marriott Way, Chapel Hill, NC, which is just a block away from the Friday Center North Entrance (see map from the hotel to the Friday Center). Check-in is at 3:00pm; however the hotel will store your luggage if you arrive prior to 3:00pm and your room is not ready. Check out is at 11:00am. If you attend the optional Saturday morning session, they will also store your luggage during the session.

You will be sharing a room with two beds with another participant. Single rooms are available on a first come, first serve basis for an additional charge of $55.00 per night.

If you are running tight on time and plan to attend an optional Wednesday afternoon session, you can go directly to that session in the Friday Center (with your luggage in tow).

Workshop Registration

Workshop registration will be held on Wednesday, June 27, between 2:00-7:00pm at the Friday Center, Atrium North. Participants will sign in, pick up workshop materials, and submit the completed Medical Emergency Health Form (Acrobat (PDF) 5kB Jan13 04) in a sealed envelope. If you arrive after the Wednesday evening program, you may check in at the first session on Thursday morning.

Internet Access

Complimentary high-speed wireless service is available throughout the Courtyard Chapel Hill. The Friday Center has free internet access.

Parking

Both the Courtyard Chapel Hill and the Friday Center offer free parking.

What to Wear
Dress for the workshop is casual. Please be prepared for cool air conditioned buildings and the hot/humid outdoors. Average temperatures in June in Chapel Hill range from 64 to 86 degrees Fahrenheit. Summer thunderstorms are not uncommon, so we encourage you to check the Chapel Hill weather forecast prior to your departure and pack accordingly. 

Meals

A light continental breakfast will be available at the Friday Center on Thursday and Friday mornings starting at 7:30 am. On Saturday morning, a breakfast buffet is available to participants staying at the hotel starting at 6:00am; your breakfast voucher will be issued to you at the hotel check-in. Most lunches and dinners will be buffet-style at the Friday Center; dinner on Friday night will be at the hotel. There will be vegetarian options at all meals.
