Information for Speakers and Facilitators

Instructions and preparation will be updated on this page.

Recorded Meeting: Speaker and Facilitator Info
Speakers, facilitators, and conveners met on Oct. 16th to go through requirements and roles of speakers and facilitators.

Speakers:

  • There will be two invited speaker sessions, one Monday morning and one Monday afternoon; view the Program to see the listed speakers and talk subjects, which will be updated as you send us your talk titles.
  • Each talk is only 7 minutes long.   Questions for presenters will be held between groups of speakers (every 2-3 speakers) and additional questions can be answered in the Slack channels and during working sessions.
  • Please be sure to email us (mjkahn@carleton.edu) the title of your talk and a .pdf or .ppt of your talk slides by Wednesday Oct. 19, in advance of the workshop.  This way we can have all the presentations downloaded ahead of the session.
  • For examples of previous talks, you may be interested to look at the virtual workshop recordings found on the 2022 Program - particularly Embedding Online MATLAB Teaching Tools in Courses.

Facilitators:

  • Your role in group discussions is largely to guide conversations and other educators towards the named outcomes (not necessarily to provide domainal expertise on the topics or curricula at hand).
  • Lisa will try to group participants by shared area or domain.
  • For each session, the main role of the facilitator is to keep the discussion on track, and to check in as a group or with individuals to make sure they know what deliverables they should try to create.
  • Instructions for how to facilitate conversations for each discussion/work section will be provided in the Program: See the highlighted sections of the program document for discussion sections: 2023 Program - highlighted for facilitators (Microsoft Word 2007 (.docx) 20kB Oct16 23)
