The Department of Chemistry at Binghamton University (State University of New York, https://www.binghamton.edu/chemistry/) invites applications for a General Chemistry Laboratory Coordinator, a calendar year professional staff position eligible for permanent appointment. The main responsibilities will be the management and operation of all general chemistry laboratory courses. The Coordinator will update existing and develop new laboratory experiments and initiatives in collaboration with Faculty and the Director of the Instruction and Outreach to continually improve the undergraduate general chemistry curriculum. Specific responsibilities of the position include planning, coordinating, and teaching general chemistry laboratory courses, including formal writing instruction, training and coordinating undergraduate and graduate teaching assistants; manage day-to-day operation of the laboratories; schedule, plan and coordinate laboratory exercises; administer the laboratory budget; enforce safety regulations; operate and maintain laboratory instrumentation; participate in and contribute to chemical education workshops and conferences; be the LON-CAPA manager for all general chemistry laboratory courses; participate in necessary institutional functions such as, but not limited to, departmental and university committees. Potential candidates should have a Master or a Ph.D. in chemistry or a related field at the time of the appointment; outstanding organizational, communication and interpersonal skills and a demonstrated commitment to outstanding teaching at the undergraduate level.

Job Responsibilities:
- Plan, supervise and manage the general chemistry laboratory courses.
- Engage in the administration, supervision, training, and guidance of staff, undergraduate and graduate teaching assistants and such other personnel as may be required in the Department's undergraduate instructional programs.
- Oversee, check and set up associated laboratory instrumentation. Identify and schedule preventative/corrective maintenance of instrumentation.
- Prepare and supervise the preparation of solutions, samples, and standards for laboratory exercises. Enforce safety regulations. Budget for, order, receive, and maintain an inventory of chemicals, supplies, and equipment for the gen chem instructional laboratories.
- Be the LON-CAPA manager for all general chemistry courses.
- Work collaboratively with faculty course instructors for continuing operation and improvement of the teaching program. Revise laboratory exercises, and develop and test new laboratory exercises. Design and implement effective teaching/learning processes. Write teaching training materials.
- Participate in and contribute to chemical education workshops and conferences. Seek to publish laboratory exercises and other teaching developments in chemical education journals.
- Participate in necessary institutional functions such as, but not limited to, departmental and university committees, facilitation of advisory committees, and student/faculty/staff recruitment.
Minimum Educational Requirements. Masters or Ph.D. in chemistry or related fields at the time of the appointment.
Minimum Special Requirements.
Experience with the following aspects of teaching:
-General chemistry undergraduate laboratory courses
-Chemistry laboratory management (safety, waste disposal, budget, inventory)
-Supervision of diverse staff, including graduate and/or undergraduate students
-Engaging undergraduates in modern teaching technologies and participating in workshops and conferences on chemical education
-Working collaboratively with faculty for continuing improvement of teaching programs and participation on departmental committees
