Workshop Description
This workshop on Geology and Human Health is a follow-up to the original 2004 workshop. We will focus on the importance of geological materials and processes in human health. Historical evolution of the new subspecialty, referred to as Medical Geology (in Europe and elsewhere) and Geology and Human Health (U.S.) will be reviewed and case histories linking geology to occurrence of disease and its relationship to human well-being will be discussed. We will demonstrate ways to incorporate into your own instructional activities the existing resources on Geology and Human Health developed by the On the Cutting Edge program. We will also provide the opportunity to explore additional topics in this subject to help further build these educational resources. Participants will leave this workshop with information about available instructional resources, ready-to-go teaching activities, and will form connections with colleagues with similar interests in Geology and Health to support their own teaching and research activities.
