What is the Early Career workshop and who attends?

The first few years in a faculty position are a critical time, and NAGT's Workshop for Early Career Geoscience Faculty and supporting website are here to support faculty in the Earth, atmospheric, ocean, and environmental sciences and help them thrive in their new roles.

The five-day, in-person workshop integrates career-stage support with discipline-specific guidance for building evidence-based teaching skills, developing a thriving research program, managing service obligations, and thinking strategically about career pathways. The workshop includes plenary and concurrent sessions coupled with individual mentoring and group discussions; follow-on activities include virtual mini-workshops and informal office hour sessions to share ideas about topics of interest.

Each year, we hold this workshop for 50-70 attendees who are in the first three years of their positions at higher education institutions of all types across the United States, primarily, with a few international universities represented. They are setting up research labs, designing new courses, and engaging with other professionals in the discipline.
