Location

All workshop sessions and activities will take place on the campus of Montana State University (MSU) in Bozeman, Montana, about 12 miles from the Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport (BZN). You are responsible for your transportation to and from Bozeman. All workshop activities will be in the Strand Union Building (SUB) on the MSU Campus.

Duration

The workshop will begin at 5 PM on Wednesday, June 27th, 2012, with a reception, dinner and evening program. The opening reception and most workshop activities will be take place in Ballroom C at the SUB. The workshop program will include sessions all day on Thursday and the workshop will end at noon on Friday, June 29th. Participants must attend all sessions.

Lodging for Workshop

Double occupancy room reservations will be made for everyone attending this workshop at the Best Western GranTree Inn , arriving Wednesday, June 27th and departing Friday, June 29th. Reservations will be based on information submitted on your Travel Information Form due May 14th; please do not make your own reservations.

The InTeGrate grant will cover hotel costs for double occupancy rooms for the workshop nights of the 27th and 28th of June. Please indicate if you have a roommate preference on Registration Form; otherwise one will be assigned to you.

Single occupancy rooms are available, with the understanding that you will be responsible for the additional cost ($65/night).

Travel by air

Please be sure to complete the [link Travel Information Form with details of your airline and arrival/departure times. If you are arriving by air, you should plan on flying into Bozeman, MT Airport Information for Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport (BZN)).

Plan to arrive on Wednesday, June 27th no later than 3:00 pm, as the first event will begin at 5:00 pm. For your return trip home, schedule your flight for June 29th, departing mid afternoon. Workshop sessions end at noon on the 29th. If you plan to participate in the Yellowstone Field Trip on June 30th, you should plan to depart on July 1st.

Participants or their institutions will need to cover the cost of travel to and from the workshop location. Workshop travel stipends were available for a limited number of participants for whom travel costs present a barrier to participation. Please note that the deadline for travel stipend applications has passed.

Surface Transport to/from the Airport

Shuttle transportation from the airport to the The GranTree Inn, Best Western hotel, in Bozeman, will be arranged using the hotel's 24 hour airport shuttle service. The hotel will schedule your pick up based on the flight information you provide on the travel information form, but will need you to call the GranTree hotel, upon arrival, for shuttle pick up instructions. Hotel number: 406-587-5261. If you are delayed in travel, please let the GranTree know of your new arrival time, 406-587-5261. An alternative option: Greater Valley Taxi: 406 388-9999. Typical taxi cost are about $15.

Travel by car

Please be sure to complete the Travel Information Form with your travel information.

Arriving via I-90: take the 7th Ave exit and head south. The GranTree Inn is south of the interstate. Please take the first right hand turn (west) onto Baxter Lane and the GranTree Inn (Best Western) is clearly visible at this intersection.

To Get to the MSU Campus:

Continue traveling south on N 7th Ave to Main Street (a "T" intersection). Turn right (west) and turn left (south) on 11th Ave. The second stop sign will be Grant Street (the basketball dome is straight ahead). Turn left (east) on Grant, travel past the athletic facilities to the corner of 7th Ave. Please notice a parking kiosk on the SW corner. Be sure to purchase a daily parking ticket ($2.50/day). You can park in the large parking lot just adjacent to the south. It is a short walk to the Student Union Building where the meeting will be held, which is on the north side of Grant Street, with a large driveway for dropping off people, bus stop, etc.

Meals

Meals will be provided during the workshop, mostly in the Strand Union Building at MSU, including: opening reception and buffet dinner Wednesday night, continental breakfast Thursday and Friday mornings, lunch on Thursday, with snacks during the day. Thursday's dinner will be at an outstanding restaurant in downtown Bozeman, John Bozeman's Bistro.

All meals will include vegetarian offerings. Please provide information on the registration form if you require special meals. If you choose to eat something other than the planned meals, you will be responsible for the costs.

The price of all meals and gratuities during the workshop is covered. However, the NSF grant does not cover alcoholic beverages. Alcoholic drinks will be available for purchase at the Wednesday and Thursday dinners.

What to wear

Dress for this workshop will be decidedly casual, but you should be prepared for a variety of weather conditions. June in Montana is renowned for its variable and changing weather. Possible weather conditions range from cold (20-30 degrees) and snowy, to wet and blustery, to mild (up to 80 degrees) and sunny. Make sure to bring a warm waterproof jacket for the field trip, as well as hat, gloves, sturdy boots a day pack, water bottle, and of course a camera! Dressing in layers will give you the best flexibility to adjust to the changing weather. For those attending the optional Yellowstone field trip, don't forget your bathing suit! The hot pools at Chico Hot Springs are sure to be one of the highlights of the trip.

Optional Field Excursions

Friday afternoon:

Immediately following the workshop, there will be an optional field excursion for those who will be staying in Bozeman Friday night. (Maybe your flight is on Saturday or you're planning to attend the Yellowstone Field Trip.) We plan to hike in the Hyalite Canyon, south of Bozeman. A group dinner is planned, on your own tab, at the AleWorks on Main Street following the hike. or more detail about this trip, visit the field trip page. Please note: You will need to make a reservation and pay for your own hotel if you are staying Friday night and not attending the Saturday Field Trip.

Saturday June 30th:

Optional full day field trip to Yellowstone National Park. The field trip route will be travel to West Yellowstone, and then stops at Fountain Paint Pots, Norris Basin, and Mammoth Hot Springs in the Park. We will end the day with a soak and BBQ dinner at Chico Hot Springs. For more detail about this trip, visit the field trip page. You are responsible for the cost of this trip which includes: Friday and Saturday night lodging at the GranTree Inn, transportation through Yellowstone, and Saturday meals during the field trip. Plan to fly out of Bozeman on Sunday if you plan on going on the Saturday Field Excursion. Let us know if you are planning to attend this optional field trip when you register for the workshop by April 27th.
