Check-in for the workshop will take place on Sunday, July 28, starting at 3:00 PM in the lobby of the Hilton. At 7:00, workshop check-in will move to the Gunston Room, where the opening session will be.
We will gather informally for a reception and dinner at 5:30 PM at a nearby restaurant. The workshop will officially begin with a program Sunday evening, July 28, 2013 at 7:00. If you cannot arrive on Sunday in time for the 7:00 session, please plan to travel on Saturday and indicate that on your travel information form. Under these circumstances, we will arrange for housing for you on Saturday night.
Optional NSF Trip
We are offering an optional one-day trip to the National Science Foundation on Friday, August 2. We will start with an orientation session followed by small group meetings with program officers. Following that, NSF staff will offer group sessions on some specific NSF programs and you will be able to meet individually with NSF program officers. Transportation to NSF is on your own. This NSF trip is optional, but we encourage everyone, including faculty from two-year colleges, to attend.
If you opt to stay in your hotel room on Friday night you will be responsible for the cost of the extra night's stay.
Participants are responsible for their travel to and from the workshop.
Transportation to Washington DC by Air
Three airports serve the DC area:
- Reagan National Airport (DCA) (about 20 minutes from AGU)
- Dulles International Airport (IAD) (about 40 minutes from AGU)
- Washington International Airport (BWI) (between DC and Baltimore, MD; about an hour from AGU)
Transportation options from the DC airports to AGU include the Metro or taxis. See the airport websites (linked above) for specifics.
If you attend the NSF trip, you may choose to fly home on the afternoon or evening of August 2. Travel time from the NSF offices to BWI or Dulles is at least one hour (and may be more during rush hour); to Reagan National you should allow at least one-half hour if during rush hour. The Washington DC Airport Shuttle serves all three metropolitan Washington airports. They will pick up at the door and deliver to the airport.
