Interactive metacognitive learning wrapper

Developed by: Duncan Sibley, Martha Mamo, Perry Samson, Dexter Perkins and Simon Brassell
Developed at the 2008 workshop, The Role of Metacognition in Teaching Geoscience.

For population: Large Classes

Description of the tactic:
Real-time, on-line metacognitive wrapper soliciting students' reflection on challenging concepts and reinforcing productive learning strategies.

How and why this tactic is particularly useful for the given population:
Automated procedure facilitates application in large classes and enables near real-time feedback in varied instructional settings (e.g. class, pre-exam, post-exam).

Example of how the population would use this tactic:
Students respond to questions related to concepts that may be exemplified, for example, by visual representations. One metacognitive application is to ask students who modify their initial answer after class discussions why they made that change.
