Project Focus
- Career Support for Educators 1 match Focus on supporting educators in their careers. This includes pre-service and in-service professional development for k-12 teachers, support for college educators aimed at different career stages and elements like leadership development.
- Changing Education Systems 5 matches Focus on how to make positive change in education systems. This includes departmental change, institutional change, as well as other systemic change across institutions and disciplines.
- Connecting STEM Research to Education 3 matches Focuses on bringing current STEM research practice and knowledge into education. This includes research experiences for student such as field work, CURE's and summer research experiences (like REU's). It also includes strategies and resources for bringing current research literature, practices and knowledge into the classroom and informal science communication.

ARIS: Advancing Research Impact in Society
The Center for Advancing Research Impact in Society (ARIS) was launched in September 2018 with funding from the National Science Foundation to "advance the rigor, relevance, and practice of broader impacts (BI)." ARIS works to elevate research impact by providing high-quality resources and professional development opportunities and by creating connections among researchers, community partners, and engagement practitioners. The external evaluation team at SERC provides an independent, formative assessment of whether Center activities are being implemented as proposed (implementation evaluation) and desired outcomes are being achieved (outcome evaluation). Consistent with a Development Evaluation (DE) approach, the goal of this work is to provide project leaders with the information they need to continuously adapt and improve ARIS materials and programming throughout the grant period.

Project EDDIE develops flexible, stand-alone, and modular classroom activities for undergraduate students using long-term and high-frequency datasets to explore the core scientific concepts and develop quantitative literacy. Throughout the lifetime of the project, the SERC team has taken on a number of roles such as initially providing expertise on modular activity development and website development and student assessment.

The Data Labs project is building community of practice to bring National Science Foundation's Ocean Observatories Initiative (OOI) data into undergraduate teaching using evidence-based pedagogies. The evaluation and research focuses on assessing faculty experiences in professional development events and activities and understanding the needs of the community.

SAGE 2YC
By engaging 2YC geoscience faculty in professional development, the SAGE2YC project disseminated advances in STEM education to improve teaching, support students in geoscience technical training, and help prepare geoscience majors and pre-service teachers for college transfer. This program shared successful strategies for teaching students with a range of abilities, experiences, and goals, and for preparing 2YC students for the geoscience workforce.

The project's primary goal is to enhance access to high-quality Earth education resources by understanding how educators use SERC's materials, improving SERC's infrastructure and organization for easier access, and expanding discoverable resources through partnerships. EarthLabs
EarthLabs provides a national model for engaging k-12 Earth and environmental science labs. Multiple units illustrate sequences for learning science concepts through data analysis activities and hands-on experiments. SERC designed the website structure that supports both students and instructors and hosts this heavily used set of materials.

Expanding HBCU Pathways for Geoscience Education
The GP-IMPACT: Expanding HBCU Pathways for Geoscience Education aims to identify the challenges and opportunities related to improving minority access to the geosciences across educational levels and specifically at HBCUs. SERC supported the completion of the qualitative study of geoscience efforts at participating HBCUs and developing and hosting the website which holds the results.

TIDeS

The aim of the project is to prepare future teachers by exposing them to discourse-filled, context-rich, inclusive classrooms on the premise that teachers should learn science the way they are expected to teach it. SERC is involved both through support of the rubric-driven curriculum development process as well as a multi-faceted evaluation making use of qualitative and quantitative methods to assess project objectives.
