For the Instructor
These student materials complement the Coastal Processes, Hazards and Society Instructor Materials. If you would like your students to have access to the student materials, we suggest you either point them at the Student Version which omits the framing pages with information designed for faculty (and this box). Or you can download these pages in several formats that you can include in your course website or local Learning Managment System. World-wide examples of communities facing challenges created by the coastal hazards of repeated storms, major catastrophic destruction, and ongoing sea level rise.
- You will explore various sources that create a picture of the varied experiences in several locations worldwide.
- You will be expected to demonstrate a general understanding of: how physical setting, elevation, and geomorphology plays a part in each location's vulnerability; how the economics, population density, and other demographics of the place impact the responses of the residents; and how each community responds to the challenges and moves forward after a disaster.
