Geoscience Literacy Exam (GLE) Question Selection

This form is for those testing GLE questions in the classroom, but not a full InTeGrate module or course. Please select the questions that are relevant to your course. Based on combined interest, a common set of questions will be prepared. You receive access to the full question set after registering as a tester.

To maintain control of these questions, any GLE questions must be administered in a secure environment. They must be proctored and questions can NOT be returned to students. You are encouraged to use any GLE questions that pertain to your course, remembering to maintain control of the questions.

Step 1: View GLE Questions

To determine which questions you would like to use, please read through the available GLE questions (Note: this is a private page. Access is granted once you've registered and been approved. The GLE link will prompt you to sign in to your SERC account to view). Then, select the questions you would like to use below. It may help to have the questions open in a separate window as you decide.

Step 2: Select GLE Questions to Test

Earth Scientists use repeatable observations and testable ideas to understand and explain our planet.

Earth is 4.6 billion years old.

Earth is a complex system of interacting rock, water, air, and life.

Earth is continuously changing.

Earth is the water planet.

Life evolves on a dynamic Earth and continuously modifies Earth.

Humans depend on Earth for resources.

Natural Hazards pose risks to humans.

Humans significantly alter the Earth.

The sun is the primary source of energy for Earth's climate system.

Climate is regulated by complex interactions among components of the Earth System.

Life on Earth depends on, is shaped by, and affects climate.

Climate varies over space and time through both natural and man-made processes.

Human activities are impacting the Earth System.

Climate change will have consequences for the Earth System and human lives.

The Earth has one big ocean with many features.

The ocean and life in the ocean shape the features of the Earth.

The ocean is a major influence on weather and climate.

The ocean makes Earth habitable.

The ocean supports a great diversity of life and ecosystems.

The ocean and humans are inextricably interconnected.

The ocean is largely unexplored.

Earth has a thin atmosphere that sustains life.

Energy from the Sun drives atmospheric processes.

Atmospheric circulations transport matter and energy.

Earth's atmosphere changes over time and space, giving rise to weather.

We seek to understand the past, present, and future behavior of Earth's atmosphere through scientific observation and reasoning.

Earth's atmosphere and humans are inextricably linked.
