Overview

This workshop aims to inform CLASP leadership of the membership's concerns around systemic barriers as a starting point for addressing them. Participants will identify initial barriers around outreach to funders, stakeholders, and collaborators such as learning about grant opportunities and making the case for research at predominantly undergraduate institutions (PUIs). In the second meeting, participants will work toward synthesizing strategies that empower members to make a case for their positions and offices, both by sharing internal advocacy strategies for individual campuses and by building connections to the professional organizations that represent CLASP stakeholders on our campus (e.g., AAC&U, ACAD, HACU, NACUBO). Outcomes from these convenings will inform a strategic planning session at the CLASP October 2024 face-to-face meeting.

Objectives

  • Identify membership's concerns around systemic barriers related to outreach to funders and strategies and resources and partners that can address them.
  • Identify systemic barriers related to stakeholders, collaborators, and gatekeepers, and compile strategies, resources, and partners for making the case for their positions.

The virtual workshop will include two 1-hour Zoom sessions on Fridays, July 26 and August 2. The Zoom sessions will be 1-2pm Eastern / 12-1pm Central / 11am-12pm Mountain / 10-11am Pacific, and connection info will be sent out the week of the workshop.
