Associate Director of UC Irvine Teaching and Learning Research Center

The University of California, Irvine is seeking a Project Scientist to serve as Associate Director of the newly-established Teaching and Learning Research Center. Salary and rank within the Project Scientist series is commensurate with experience. Initial appointment is for up to three years, with renewal based on availability of support. Appointment can begin at a mutually agreed upon date after July 15, 2016.

Responsibilities: Responsibilities include designing and leading research projects investigating teaching and learning at UCI and within higher education more broadly; publishing and presenting results from these studies; collaborating with UCI faculty to develop and submit research grants for studies of teaching and learning; mentoring faculty on educational research methods; supervising a staff assessment specialist; tracking and reporting on center activities; and helping manage the overall work of the center.

Requirements: Candidates must possess a Ph.D or equivalent.

Additional Qualifications: Experience in conducting research on higher education teaching and learning; expertise in research design, methodology, and educational statistics; outstanding verbal and written communication skills; a successful record of publication and presentations; and the ability to work well with university faculty. Demonstrated expertise in proposal or grant writing is highly desirable. Knowledge of a variety of research methods, such as those based on experiments or quasi-experiments, survey research, qualitative case studies, and data mining/machine learning, is also desirable. Experience in project management or coordination is also desirable.
