Showing and Knowing:

How Exhibits, Displays, and Posters Teach

December 6-7, 2010
Alumni Guest House, Carleton College

How do objects tell stories? How can you explain complex systems visually? How can students communicate their understanding through visual means? How do students learn through studying objects, artifacts, specimens, and other "things"? At this workshop we looked closely at the ways in which students can demonstrate and communicate their learning through posters, displays, and exhibits. We explored the curricular connections we can make with gallery exhibits and how they can become the catalyst for student learning.

This Viz workshop was sponsored by the "Visualizing the Liberal Arts" grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, by the Carleton Interdisciplinary Science and Math Initiative, and by the Carleton Writing Program.
