Logistics and Transportation

The workshop will begin at 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 17, 2009 with a reception and dinner. Please make your plans so that you will be able to attend this opening session. The workshop will conclude after dinner on Tuesday, May 19. It is essential that you attend the full workshop including the full day on Tuesday. An optional field trip will be held all day on Wednesday, May 20. You are responsible for the cost of your transportation.

Travel by Air

Air service to Laramie is available by United Express shuttle from Denver International Airport. Rental cars are available at Laramie Regional Airport.

Alternatively, you can fly into Denver International Airport, rent a car and drive to Laramie. The drive to Laramie, using I-25N and I-80W, takes a little over two hours in good weather. We will not be providing ground transportation from the Denver airport to Laramie. We will help to coordinate groups who are flying into Denver and are interested in sharing rental cars.

The Hilton Garden Inn offers a complimentary shuttle service to those flying into the Laramie Airport.

Travel by Car

To the Hilton Garden Inn:
From I-80 take exit #316/US-30/Grand Ave. onto E. Grand Ave. (US-30) towards I-80-BL. Go 2.7 miles. Arrive at 2229 E. Grand Ave, Laramie WY

Lodging

The workshop organizers will make room reservations for everyone attending the workshop at the Hilton Garden Inn in Laramie. The hotel is at 2229 Grand Ave., Laramie, Wyoming, USA 82070

Each participant will have a private room with a phone. Hilton Garden Inn check in time is 3:00 PM and check out time is Noon.

Shuttle service between the hotel and campus at the start and end of the day will be available. It's about a 5-7 block walk to the meeting space from the hotel and downtown is about 10 blocks from the hotel.

Computing

All participants should bring a laptop computer to the workshop. This will allow the use of online forms and web submissions during the workshop. Wireless internet access will be available from the workshop meeting rooms and the hotel.

Communications

You will have a telephone in your room at the Hilton Garden Inn and messages can be left at the hotel desk at 307-745-5500. The hotel also offers complimentary high-speed internet access in every guest room and secure remote printing to the 24-hour business center. Internet access will also be available in the meeting room.

Meals

The Hilton Garden Inn offers a complimentary breakfast each morning. We will have a combination of dining hall meals and excursions to local restaurants. All meals will include vegetarian offerings. Please provide information on the registration form if you require special meals. The price of all meals and gratuities during the workshop is covered. However, the NSF grant does not cover alcoholic beverages. Alcoholic drinks will be available for purchase during some meal-times.

What to expect

Laramie is a small town (population 28,000) in southeastern Wyoming. It is 49 miles west of Cheyenne, the state capital, and 130 miles from Denver, Colorado. Laramie is 7,200 feet above sea level producing long winters and cool, comfortable summers. May is late spring with average temperatures between 41 and 60 degrees. However, spring snows are not unusual. Shuttle service between the hotel and campus at the start and end of the day will be available.
