Activity Description

Based on displays at the Museum of the Earth PRI Ithaca NYChoose the top predator in the display from each major time period in this museum Devonian Jurassic and Quaternary and photograph/sketch it. Create a concept sketch that includes interpretations of paleoecology. Include a defense of the choice of top and a list of likely prey and their defenses.Adaptable to other museums with samples on display of different fossils from a particular location and time period.

Learning Goals

  • Students will be able to analyze aspects of functional morphology predict community interactions and articulate predator-prey relationships.
