Creating a new MATLAB course for freshmen students

Jea Joseph, Math and Computer Science, Oakwood University

This Spring, I have been tasked with offering a new course to all freshmen STEM majors to introduce them to MATLAB to use in future mathematics and research type courses. I am new to MATLAB myself and am currently learning the software as well. My biggest challenge is that the software has so many uses, I'm finding it difficult to narrow the course down to specific topics.

Our students will need to use MATLAB in their Linear Algebra course, Numerical Analysis course, and research labs in Biology and Chemistry. I'm working on putting together a syllabus with topics that will be useful and applicable for all of these disciplines.

I am working with MATLAB consultants and MATLAB online courses to get up to speed quickly so that my students will have the tools necessary to complete future coursework using the software.
