Integrating Energy, Earth and Environmental Education part of Integrate:Workshops and Webinars:Integrating Energy, Earth and Environmental Education
As the world grapples with climate change, educators have an increased responsibility to help their students learn about energy, energy systems, and the energy economy. This webinar introduces Energy, Earth and Environmental Education (E4) – an emerging approach informs about energy solutions to climate change. David Blockstein (AESS) will introduce E4 and present opportunities to learn more about E4. Teresa Sabol Spezio (Pitzer College) will discuss pedagogy involved applying the complexity of energy systems so students have a way to compare and evaluate energy sources. Cornelia Colijn (University of Pennsylvania) will discuss creation of graduate programs in energy.

Howard Community College: Using the TIDeS module in PHYS 106- Earth and Space Science part of TIDeS:TIDeS Teaching Materials:Instructor Stories
The original course fell into the common trap of providing a huge amount of information without asking students to engage in the process of science themselves. In this new version, students engage with scientific practices, ask questions, and analyze data many times throughout the semester, helping them to build confidence in their ability as scientists and teachers. We hope that through the TIDeS curriculum, students will feel more comfortable engaging in, and eventually teaching, the basics of science. We use real-world data and place-based examples to motivate students to learn about locations and issues that they care about, bringing science into their lives instead of thinking about abstract concepts.

Iowa State Geology Field Camp part of NAGT:Our Resources:For Students:Field Camps:Field Camp Courses
The Iowa State University Geology Field Camp provides students with experience in performing field analyses related to structure, stratigraphy, sedimentology, metamorphic processes, energy resources, and environmental science. Our initial exercises hone students' basic field skills, helping them prepare for the more career-relevant projects near the end of the course. Study areas include the Bighorn Basin, Wind River Range, and excursions to Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks.During this course, students will gain experience in:- Geologic mapping of strata and structure using topographic, orthoimage, and/or 3D printed base maps;- Detailed logging and interpretation of sedimentary strata exposed in outcrop;- Designing and implementing drone mapping missions;- Fundamentals of environmental site assessments;- Interpretation and correlation of wireline logs to outcrop data;- Risk assessment of energy resources and underground carbon storage;- Identification and interpretation of igneous/metamorphic rocks in outcrop;- Critical observations and evaluation of geologic data;- Managing of uncertainty/error in field settings; and- Project management and time management skills.
