SERC Role
- Community Building/Organization 2 matches A focus on activities that create a sense of community amongst project participants. This can include groups such as communities of practice, professional organizations, and research coordination networks.
- Content Expertise 2 matches A focus on SERC staff writing disciplinary content for a project. Many SERC staff members have advanced degrees and all can contribute a wide range of content knowledge to projects.
- Evaluation 1 match SERC has deep experience in utilization-focused, evidence-based program evaluation. This can include a wide variety of methodologies, evaluation planning, and capacity building for project teams.
- Event Development/Facilitation 5 matches A focus on planning, organizing, and supporting in-person or virtual events as part of a project's activities. This can include logistical support, program development, session facilitation, and all other aspects of running successful events.

This site examines the role of geoscience departments and faculty in preparing preservice teachers and supporting practicing teachers who teach Earth science at all pre-college levels. It draws from the participants insight and outcomes of a 2003 workshop. SERC hosted the workshop and supported the development of the website synthesis.

SAGE 2YC
By engaging 2YC geoscience faculty in professional development, the SAGE2YC project disseminated advances in STEM education to improve teaching, support students in geoscience technical training, and help prepare geoscience majors and pre-service teachers for college transfer. This program shared successful strategies for teaching students with a range of abilities, experiences, and goals, and for preparing 2YC students for the geoscience workforce.

Mental Health in the Geosciences
The workshop on Positive Mental Health in the Geosciences focused on building community and gathering information from attendees and psychologists to help us assess how mental health is being addressed in formal and informal geoscience communities, and identify outstanding needs. SERC designed and facilitated the workshop with the Geological Society of America.

Earth Educators Rendezvous
The Earth Educators' Rendezvous is a semi-annual conference featuring a combination of workshops, posters, talks, round-table discussions, field trips, and plenary presentations. This website portal provides faculty and students with information about geoscience education at two-year colleges. Faculty can learn about teaching materials, find information about workforce development and geoscience careers, and learn about professional development opportunities. Students can find out about scholarships and educational opportunities. SERC facilitated connections between the contributing projects and hosts the website.
