About Me
I am an Assistant Professor at Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland. I hold advanced degrees in geology and education.
Focus of current FEW-Nexus-based education work
My work merges disciplinary science with education research. In my work, I created a place-based, water quality themed curriculum using the water quality crisis in Flint, MI as a case study. The goal was to see if teaching embedding geoscience content within a case of environmental justice would support student learning of the underlying science and scientific practices, interest development, self-efficacy, and transformative learning. I see my work aligning with the water aspect of FEW with the goal of making examining and developing the nexus amongst the three. I am deeply interested and motivated by equity and environmental justice and am interested in extending the ideas of NC-FEW in this area.
FEW-Nexus-based education experience, expertise and interests
As a geoscience educator and education researcher, I am interested in:
- developing curricula (and problem-based learning experiences) that encompasses FEW that could transfer to middle school and high school classrooms and/or informal, intergenerational learning spaces;
- developing accessible strategies for the teaching of FEW;
- researching the efficacy of designed FEW learning experiences.
