Phenomena are commonly used in Science Classrooms and Standards like NGSS, but can also be used to anchor investigations and lines of inquiry in ELA and SS classrooms. During this third meeting of the MCC Community of Practice, participants learned about how phenomena-based learning can help students make connections between climate change impacts in the Midwest and their daily lives. Participants collaboratively generated ideas on how to use phenomena. This included generating ideas on social and ecological effects and also engaging students in thinking about solutions. Resources created during this meeting can be found in the resources section of the Program page.
During the meeting, participants
- built educator community around exploring Midwest-specific climate change impacts,
- shared ideas for engaging students in phenomena and reflected on their climate experiences, and
- shared resources for investigating solutions.
