Part 2—Download Maps and Software
Step 1 –
Download the Pollen Viewer Digital Maps
- Go to the Williams Lab, the website of Dr. Jack Williams, University of Wisconsin, Madison.
- Scroll down to the section titled Pollen Viewer and click on the link that reads "the data files and java applet can be downloaded here" to download a zipped file that includes all of the images used in the Pollen Viewer tool. Note: Downloading the files may take several minutes.
- A "Viewer32" file will be downloaded to your Downloads folder. Create a new folder with a unique name (easily recognizable like "Pollen") and save the file in your new folder so you can easily find it.
- Unzip the "Viewer32" file. A folder labeled Viewer 32 will be created and contain several files and another folder labeled Images. Within the Images folder you will find the individual images that are used in the Pollen Viewer animations.
Step 2 –
Download the Analysis Software, Analyzing Digital Images
- Download the image analysis software Analyzing Digital Images from the Digital Earth Watch (DEW) website. There are several versions of the software available: one for a Mac's operating system and one for a Windows PC's operating system. Note: this is the 2012 version of the software, it requires JAVA. Image below is from 2008 version.
- A file, "ADI-OSX-822-11.zip", will be downloaded to your Downloads folder.
- Save the software you've just downloaded, Analyzing Digital Images, in the Pollen folder on your desktop.
