Postdoc position: Exploring landscape of change efforts in STEM education

published Dec 22, 2023 8:10am

This Postdoctoral Fellowship will be 75% time for a 16-month term. Geographic location is Chicago, IL, and may be negotiable for online work within the following states: Arizona, California, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nevada, New Jersey, North Carolina, South Carolina, Oklahoma, Texas, Virginia, Washington, and Wisconsin. Anticipated start date is between February 1, 2023 and April 1, 2024.

The postdoctoral fellow will be part of a multi-institutional collaborative team (Dr. Jacci Rivard - National Louis University, Dr. Joel Corbo & Dr. Sarah Wise - University of Colorado Boulder, Dr. Courtney Ngai - Colorado State University, Dr. Andrea Beach - Western Michigan University) working on a National Science Foundation funded project (award #2315405). The postdoc will contribute to this project primarily through research activity including project planning, data collection and analysis, and writing.

The project focuses on two goals:

1) describing the landscape of current and historical change projects within academic departments in the U.S. across a wide variety of STEM disciplines and institutions and

2) supporting the networking of academic departmental change agents, in partnership with the Accelerating Systemic Change Network. The first goal corresponds to the research portion of the project. Research activities will include assembling a database of departmental change projects, interviewing a large number of departmental change project leaders, and compiling an edited book of findings and case studies (collaboratively generated with a subset of change project leaders / research participants).

Due to the nature of the multi-institutional project team, much project work will be conducted online, both asynchronously and synchronously. There will be some in-person opportunities for collaboration (the extent of which will depend on the location of the postdoctoral fellow). Additionally, the postdoctoral fellow will have access to professional development opportunities online and on-campus in Chicago.
