BSCS Science Learning (BSCS) has an immediate opening for a full-time Associate Science Educator to work on a suite of genetics education research projects. We seek a creative and motivated individual who shares our mission of improving science teaching and learning through research-driven innovation.

Our mission is to improve science teaching and learning through research-driven innovation. Founded in 1958, BSCS has brought the experience of inquiry learning to millions of students and teachers across the U.S. and around the world. Today, BSCS conducts research on how to improve science teaching and learning, develops instructional materials, offers professional learning programs for teachers, and conducts leadership development programs. Responsibilities of this Position

The successful candidate will work with research and science education staff on the development of curriculum materials, professional development and research studies investigating genetics education interventions. This suite of projects are funded by the National Science Foundation with the dual goals of understanding how the traditional biology curriculum contributes to race and gender biases, and developing new approaches to biology teaching that reduce those biases. The Associate Science Educator will engage in independent and collaborative work in at least four of the following areas:

● Development of innovative high school genetics instructional materials
● Development and implementation of in-service teacher professional learning interventions
● Planning and preparation for professional development of teacher participants
● Administrative work related to the recruitment and informed consent of research participants
● Development of data collection instruments
● Manuscript development and editing

Required Education and Experience

● a minimum of BA/BS that includes substantial coursework in biology or science education
● at least two years of prior experience in an educational setting serving middle school or high school students or teachers
Required Skills and Abilities
● Internally motivated
● Flexible and open
● Excellent time management, workflow management, and interpersonal skills
● Able to work well in heterogeneous teams
● Fluency in all Microsoft Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, and Word)

Preferred Skills and Interests

● Experience in instructional design or instructional materials development in science - biology preferred
● A commitment to improving educational outcomes for underrepresented populations
● A career interest in either science education or educational/social science research

Additional Information

The full-time, annual salary for this position ranges from $45,000 to $54,000 depending on experience and qualifications. BSCS offers competitive compensation and a generous package of benefits, as well as a flexible and inclusive work environment, with a strong commitment to the professional growth of all staff.

Located along the Front Range of the Rockies one hour south of Denver, Colorado Springs is known for a mild climate, a vibrant arts community, and year-round outdoor recreation. Preference will be given to candidates who will relocate to Colorado Springs.
