Associate Director for Learning Sciences - Kennesaw State University
published Jan 25, 2016 12:00amThe Center for Excellence in Teaching & Learning (CETL) at Kennesaw State University (KSU) is now accepting applications for a 12-month tenure-track position as Associate Director for Learning Sciences. KSU just underwent a consolidation with Southern Polytechnic State University. As a result, there are now two campuses, the Kennesaw Campus and the Marietta campus, which houses primarily STEM colleges, and where the Associate Director's office will be located.
The Associate Director will be responsible for establishing a CETL permanent presence on the Marietta campus by developing, implementing, and assessing a variety of CETL programs, including but not limited to: assessing faculty needs and developing workshops, book clubs, Faculty Learning Communities and similar programs to address those needs; providing individual consultations, classroom observations, focus groups and other student data collection methods, mid-semester feedback, course and syllabus (re- )design, and assistance with other pedagogical issues; developing web-based instructional resources for the new CETL website (cetl.kennesaw.edu); collaborating with colleges, departments, and programs to tailor CETL programs to disciplinary contexts; assist faculty on their grants as needed, particularly in the education and evaluation sections; publishing in the areas of Learning Sciences, SoTL, Educational Development, or related areas; and participating in ongoing CETL events as needed (e.g., New Faculty Orientation, Symposium of Student Scholars, Research on Teaching and Learning Summit, Scholarship of Teaching and Learning retreat, Teaching Academy for Part- Time and Adjunct Faculty). While many of these programs are well established at CETL, the candidate should bring a fresh vision to the responsibilities to adapt them to the Marietta context and to raise KSU and CETL's profile nationally and beyond.
The Associate Director will periodically teach in the academic department of affiliation. In addition, the successful candidate must be able to handle responsibilities of a confidential nature, exhibit poise when dealing with difficult situations or people, and exercise a high level of discretion and independent judgment.
Required Qualifications: A terminal degree in a discipline taught at KSU (or the foreign equivalent, or its equivalent in training, ability, and/or experience); a record of excellence in teaching; a scholarly record of publication; knowledge of teaching and learning research and a strong evidence-based orientation; a STEM background or experience working with STEM faculty; strong interpersonal skills; excellent listening, speaking, writing, and collaborative skills. Ideal qualifications: publications in learning sciences, SoTL, educational development, or disciplinary teaching.
