Workshop Logistics and Travel Information
Dates
The workshop will be held April 20 - 23, 2006. The first workshop activity will take place on the evening of Thursday, April 20 at 5 PM, starting with an icebreaker event, dinner, and an opening discussion. The workshop activities will continue through Friday and Saturday, April 21 - 22. Participants should plan to attend all sessions. Departures should be scheduled for Sunday, April 23.
Venue
The workshop is hosted at the American Geophysical Union headquarters in Washington DC.
Cost
The workshop itself is free. NSF Grant DUE-0127310 will provide funding for the operational costs of the workshop plus room, board, and workshop materials. Participants or their home institutions must provide transportation to and from the workshop. We will be able to offer small travel stipends to participants from institutions unable to cover travel costs. The deadline for application for travel stipends is April 1.Travel
Participants should plan to travel to Washington DC, on Thursday, April 20 early enough to attend the opening reception and dinner starting at 5:00 PM. Ronald Reagan airport is the closer of the two DC airports. You should take an airport shuttle or the Metro to/from the airport to the hotel area. Lodging
We will make all the hotel reservations and arrangements. You do not need to contact the hotel to reserve your room.
We will be housing workshop participants in double occupancy rooms. Have a look at the workshop participant list and let us know if you have a roommate preference. There are a very limited number of single rooms available for those with medical or other needs that require a single room. We will have to charge you an additional fee to cover that expense. Please contact Karin Kirk (kkirk@montana.edu) with roommate preferences or other needs.

Meals
Continental breakfasts, snacks and lunches will be served at the AGU Headquarters on Friday and Saturday. We will also provide group dinners on Thursday and Friday nights. You will be on your own for dinner on Saturday night. Vegetarian options will be available at all meals. Please let us know of any food restrictions/preferences via the registration form or contact the conveners directly.Dress
Decidedly casual! Be comfortable. Springtime in DC is quite pleasant, but be prepared -- it can always rain and temperatures can range from chilly to hot. Check the weather forecast before you come!Registration
Participation in the workshop requires acceptance through the application process. All accepted participants must register by March 15, 2006. Registration is a commitment to participate in all workshop activities. Registrants who withdraw from the workshop will incur any related costs if we can't find a replacement, except in the case of extenuating circumstances (such as a personal emergency).Further Information
