Google Earth Pro (GEP) is a powerful tool for online education and research in the natural sciences, and it is free.
The Corona Virus Pandemic has shutdown most field classes and trips in a very short span of time and created the immediate need for virtual “field” education at the university and K-12 levels. The Geologic Maps Foundation, Inc. is building content using GEP for virtual field classes and trips (focused on the earth sciences for now). The content is contained in the GEP-Portfolio that starts with GEP instructional presentations and contains the .pdf, .kmz, .jpeg, and .ppt files needed. It recommended that the .kmz files be opened in GEP and used while viewing the various slide presentation .pdf files. Virtual field instructions, exercises and trips will be added to the Portfolio over time. The Portfolio can be downloaded for free from www.geologicmapsfoundation.org. Content available as of 5/8/2020
