Regional Field Trip
Following the Teaching geoscience in the Field workshop, we will be running a regional field trip through some highlights of the Rocky Mountains. The trip will run August 17-19, 2010. (Participants should schedule their departure from Bozeman for August 20.) The itinerary for the trip is:
- Day 1 - Bozeman, to the Madison Valley (talc mine, Precambrian rocks, river terraces...), Hebgen Lake Earthquake area, West Yellowstone, Firehole River, Midway Geyser Basin, Old Faithful, to Jackson WY
- Day 2 - Teton National Park (morning hike; Signal Mountain), back to Yellowstone, West Thumb area, Hayden Valley, Fishing Bridge, Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone
- Day 3 - Norris Basin to Mammoth Hot Springs (but due to road construction) or Mount Washburn (hike across a dissected Eocene volcano), Tower Falls, Lamar Valley, Cooke City, Beartooth Highway (Archean basement), Red Lodge, back to Bozeman.
